Thermodynamics from relative entropy

We propose an alternative fundamental principle of inference: the principle of minimum expected relative entropy. Starting from the latter, we derive thermodynamics in a relative sense. This allows one to apply equilibrium concepts also to non-equilibrium situations and to work with divergence-free expressions in the context of local quantum field theory.
